An Invitation to Sligo..

The town and county of Sligo, on Ireland's Atlantic coast, is a scenic location noted for outdoor pursuits such as surfing, sailing and golf as well as traditional Irish field sports.

Located in the northwest where Connacht meets Ulster Sligo has a rich musical heritage. It is a reputation that rests mainly on Irish traditional music and fiddle music in particular. The Sligo style of fiddle playing has gained fame both at home and abroad, due to the emigration of Sligo musicians to North America in the early part of the last century.

Choral music also is popular with the town and county hosting several choral groups. A significant group in the context of this convention is the Strandhill based Barbershop group '4 Bars Later'. This group, the only barbershop group in the west of Ireland, is also unique in being a mixed group comprising of a ladies group - ... 'No Half Measures' and a men's group 'Tone Cold Sober'
